Black Carbon ModuleBlack Carbon Module

The Black Carbon Module is based on the microAeth® Black Carbon measurement technology from AethLabs, and integrates seamlessly into Clarity networks. Use the Black Carbon Module to indicate this extremely harmful component of particulate matter, with impacts ranging from human health to reduced agricultural productivity, and even global warming.


The Black Carbon Module is a real-time 5-wavelength UV-IR Black Carbon monitor. Designed to be installed outdoors on street poles and along fence lines, it also features an accelerometer, altimeter/barometer, and sensors for relative humidity and temperature. The spectrum measurement provides insight into the composition of light absorbing carbonaceous particles and helps to distinguish among the different optical signatures of various combustion sources such as diesel, woodsmoke, biomass and tobacco.

The microAeth® MA350 is a real-time 5-wavelength UV-VIS-IR Black Carbon monitor housed in an outdoorrated case with an 85 sampling location automatic filter tape advance system which allows for 3-12 months of continuous measurements.

The device is a self-contained instrument with built-in pump, flow control, data storage, and 4X the battery capacity of the MA200. The MA350 also features onboard GPS, satellite time synchronization, accelerometer, altimeter/barometer, and sensors for relative humidity and temperature. A BLDC brushless pump is optional. The MA350 is designed as a network node to be installed outdoors on street poles and along fence lines for extended multi-month measurement campaigns with low maintenance and infrequent site visits. The 85 location filter tape cartridge allows for long term continuous sampling of higher concentrations for up to a year depending on the sampling environment conditions and instrument settings. The spectrum measurement provides insight into the composition of light absorbing carbonaceous particles and helps to distinguish among the different optical signatures of various combustion sources such as diesel, woodsmoke, biomass, and tobacco. The instrument supports the DualSpot® loading compensation method which corrects for optical loading effects and provides additional information about aerosol optical properties.

The Clarity Wind Module measures the 2-dimensional horizontal components of wind speed and direction, providing you better insight into where air pollution is coming from — and where it is headed.

This lightweight and durable sensor is made of molded thermoplastic for high performance in even extreme climates with harsh UV and weather conditions.

Powered by the native solar panel of its companion Node-S device, the Clarity Wind Module is a truly plug-and-play solution for better source attribution and improved air quality modeling.

The Clarity Wind Module measures ambient temperature, pressure and relative humidity as well as the 2-dimensional horizontal components of wind speed and direction. Wind and meteorological data provide you better insight into where air pollution is coming from — and where it is headed.

Clarity Ozone Module

Ozone ModuleThe Clarity Ozone Module is based on best-in-class technology , and provides accurate measurements of ozone in air over a wide dynamic range extending from a few parts-per-billion by volume (ppb) to an upper limit of 100 parts-per-million (ppm) based on the well-established technique of absorption of ultraviolet light at 254 nm.

The Ozone Module integrates seamlessly into Clarity networks with an ozone monitoring technology has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a modification of Federal Equivalent Method (FEM): EQOA-0914-218. The Ozone Module is well suited for use by states and other monitoring agencies under 40 CFR Part 58, Ambient Air Quality Surveillance, for monitoring for compliance with the Clean Air Act.
